    Hollywood Don’t Raise Your Kids

June 25, 2008   Filed Under: Issues, Thoughts   602 words

Why is it every time you turn around there is something being blamed on celebrities. It’s not their job to fix everything wrong with our society.

So yesterday I was checking my inbox on Hotmail and as usual the new stories were up on MSN Today or Hotmail today whatever it is called. The biggest headline peaked my interest reading “Teens Make Pregnancy Pact”. The first thought in my mind of course is are you kidding me, what are they stupid? Harsh but hey my opinion.

So I read the article (and you can too HERE) I was basically content with the whole thing until I read the part titled; The ‘Juno’-Jamie Lynn effect? Come on people why is it we have to blame Hollywood/TV/The Media/Celebs etc for everything wrong in our societies. If anything movies/music/TV are merely a reflections of what goes on in our society.

I highly doubt those seventeen pregnant girls saw JUNO and thought to themselves “oooo that movie was Great. I want to go get knocked up!” [Yet another movie reference I know.] Or believe that Jamie Lynn Spears is the epitome of perfection so in order to be like her they though we should totally get preggers too!!!

The article briefly mentions that the girls suffer from self esteem issues and lack of love in their lives. Why then is this not the focus of the article. I think it should be. Nothing is mentioned about the parents of the teens. It’s my belief that if parents raise their children right than most, not all, but MOST of the time they will grow up to make sensible choices. A sensible choice is NOT making a pregnancy pact with your friends.

At the same time I do believe celebrities should try and be role models (I know it’s a little counter productive to my argument) and quit releasing sex tapes, tapes of them doing drugs, etc. But I don’t believe it’s their FAULT when impressionable children go bad. Parents should be the ones doing the impressioning.

    End EDIT

    On a more personal note:
I’ve decided to write a lot more blogs about things going on in the world, society etc. I want to make my blogs more like articles, because I want to make my site more opinionated, and improve my writing abilities. Plus I think it’s more interesting than me writing about my day and stuff. Though there probably will be a few of those still.

Updates with the site: hmm? I really don’t know what to do. Besides the few tutorials I’m thinking I might just take the entire visitor section down because I don’t like the graphics up there. I don’t kow yet. I also want to focus more on the portfolio and making it better. I started making a new layout ft myself. (A wee bit narcissistic but I don’t care.) But it’s no where near completed.

    Signing off now…

    Cherrio!

June 23, 2008   Filed Under: Driving, Shopping, Thoughts, Travelling   1011 words

So I’ve once again discovered that I strongly dislike airports but love airplanes.

If you’ve not guessed it; I’m in England right now!!! woot woot. I wouldn’t say that all the drama from before subsided; but rather lessened a bit (through my mother getting what she wanted) to the point where my little sister and I were allowed to travel. My mom is also coming to Cyprus with us. I hope they (my godfather and mother that is) don’t bring their beef/drama to Cyprus and mess up our vacation for us.

As for my hate of airports…

After being on a more than a few planes and going through airports; I forewent my usual watch and jewelry in an attempt to make security faster. But being my usually slightly dumb self. I went wearing these (really cute) olive cargo pants, which had… **shakes head)** metal studs on them. I totally forgot about them. UGH! Needless to say I got BEEPED going through the metal detectors, and had to be searched. I’d never felt to violated in my life. The airport security lady literally patted me down EVERYWHERE. eeeeek! And while she’s doing it she’s trying to have an effin’ conversation with me. And complimenting on how nice my braids look. All I’m thinking (and looking like) shut your damn mouth and hurry up. I mean these metal detector things are some damn sensitive that they beep at the underwire in one’s bra. So my metal studs had no chance what so ever. It was quite embarrassing. It probably only lasted a few minutes but it def. felt like and eternity.

So anyway when it was all done, we had dinner at McDonalds (I know not the healthiest choice) in the airport because we weren’t due to start boarding until about 8:05 and we had 1.5 hours to wait. The plane was pretty good. I watched JUNO (great movie btw) and The Kite Runner which was also good. I didn’t really get to sleep. idk why, But I should have because the night before I was up until 5 AM getting my hair braided. I woke up at 9 AM to go to the dollar store to get something or other. Then went home to get ready to leave. I tried to get some sleep before we left for the airport but that didn’t happen. So when we arrived on Sunday I literally just ate and slept for the whole day. I woke up today at like 5:55am. My body clock is def. chopped and screwed.

As for my being able to drive by myself, it’s been great! On Wednesday I went out with Theresa deposited a check for my mother. And while we were there I was talking to Theresa about where I was going to drive and the lady waiting in line ahead of us was like (all smiles), “You don’t look old enough to drive.” lol I told her I was 16 and that it was the first day that I could actually drive by myself. Then we go up to the teller of the bank and after I’ve deposited the check she’s like “Is that your daughter.” I looked at her in horror lol. “NO that’s my little sister. I’m only SIXTEEN!” We all laughed and Theresa was offered a lollipop, which she took.

My conclusion: I look old enough to have a kid but not old enough to drive. tsk tsk tsk. What is the world coming to.

Anyways…I just thought that I was a funny story I should share.

Then I went to Dunkin Donuts and got myself a Coffee Coolatta. Which are the BEST cold coffee drinks in this world. And yes I did experience my first drive thru all by myself. Not as exciting as one may think because I could barely understand the woman in the speaker thing. After that I went to Kiara’s house and woke her up, something she was NOT too happy about until she saw the Coolatta in my hand and got up and got herself a cup to have some of mine.
First to Wal Mart where I got a replacement white tank top for the one Norman butchered and destroyed in the wash. Then to Burlington Coat Factory where I looked for bathing suits but found none. So we went down the block to the Rainbow where I got a few shirts. After that we went to Fashion Bug. Where I found the perfect bathing suit that was too much money. **tear** My mother then calls Kiara’s phone looking for me and tells me she has a 40% off coupon. We wait for her to come and then she finds something she likes so I can’t have the coupon. Which turned out to be only a $10.00 off coupon. So I’m pissed and stressed and this point. So it’s off to the other Wal Mart across the border in Maryland. I didn’t find anything there but Theresa did. She got her bathing suit which was a small relief.

We went home and Norman pays Theresa back for the swimsuit she bought with her own money. He then says we should go back to Fashion Bug and get mine the next day. We did. Unfortunately the black, white and pink one I saw the day before wasn’t there so I had to get a diff. black and white one. Better than nothing I supposed. Then we went back to rainbow and I got a shirt, some bermuda shorts, and a pair of white sunglasses. All in all I guess the retail therapy I was supposed to have turned out to be only semi therapeutic.

This blog is def. long enough so here are my questions:

Have you ever travelled outside of your country?

    Do you regularly eat breakfast?

    Have you ever drank alcohol?

    My answers:

Yep, England, Ghana (west africa), Malta, and Turkey.

Usually during school yeah, when summer comes only if I wake up early enough. lol.

Yeah I didn’t get what the big deal was.
